She was born in Wandsworth (address unknown) She may have been illegitimate.


Her mother put her into a children's home - she could not afford to look after her!

However when her mother had another son, she took Vera out of the home to look after him while she worked !! Here they are at 11 and 17


she loved cats!

This must have been taken about the same time- Tom was her mothers cat. I remember the house always smelling of boiled cod !

This dress figures in a lot of photo's of Vera. People's wardrobes were not as well filled as ours.

Sent away from London during the war,,,,

WWII broke out when vera was 27 years old. She was evacuated to a small village in Kent, to be a household help to a local headmistress - Mrs Rylatt
